Workshops

Hello and welcome.

I am happy to be able to bring kiln formed glass process workshops to my local area using memorial/community halls. I will also consider private party bookings for hen parties, baby showers, birthday parties, schools and corporate events - custom price on asking.

Children/ teens can also work with glass - you know your child best, if they can follow instructions sensibly they can take part. A parent/responsible adult is required to supervise during your child's session if under 12. Children as young as 6 years have made glass pendants at my workshops.  Periodically look out for themed workshops ideal for children, especially around Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Work made on my workshops are then taken back to my studio and fired in my kiln. Your work is expected to be ready for collection (or can be posted for extra charge) within two weeks of the workshop you attended.

All the full workshop sessions cost £45 per person; these include all the glass, materials, tuition and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment - such as gloves, mask and goggles) as well as light refreshments; tea, coffee, and biscuits/cakes. Please advise of any dietary requirements at time of booking.

Any questions please do ask.

Inclusions

Glass inclusions workshops cover the use of coloured glass, frits (grains of glass in various sizes), stringers (spaghetti like lengths of glass stings), as well as adding metals and foils (Copper, aluminium, gold and silver flakes). Previously made examples are available to view on the day and we will discuss the differences and how the firing process effects the glass.

At these workshops your designs can be a coaster, hanging decorations, even pendants. In the session you have the option to have your glass cut up or left whole. These options are explained in great detail to everyone. We also look at the different methods of adding colour to your glass.

 Kiln carving

Kiln carving

Kiln carving

Kiln carving involves creating a relief in glass via fibre paper (see picture above). You will have enough glass to create one large piece or several smaller pieces. I recommend for your first try at this to opt for many varisions so you gain a better understanding of the process. You will have the option of three different thicknesses of fibre paper to allow you to choose for yourselves giving you the freedom to create a design you wish to. All the PPE needed is provided includes, gloves, masks and glasses. Please advise of any allergies to latex.
